When in Hell, be sure to meet new people

Today more than ever we are hearing that you’re going to hell for being a sinner, and if like me you relish sinning then you already know! First of all I should tell you I don’t believe in heaven or hell, so the threat of eternal damnation really doesn’t work on me, but unlike some religious groups would have you believe I do not go out and murder children and eat their remains while I masturbate into the child’s skull.

But say I did believe the heaven and hell propaganda, what are my choices. Well first is the obvious one, lead a good life, conform, follow the rules and spend eternity in heaven with god and his lot. Sounds ok, but wait a minute, what about all those Christian lunatics who go around cursing everyone who doesn’t live their life as if they were living in Salem in the 1700’s. Are they going to be there? Well if they are count me out!!

Second choice, Hell, well at first the ideas of going to hell is terrifying, all that torture and nashing of teeth, no thanks. But then chances are I will know more people in hell than I would in heaven, and no doubt there would be more people in hell who I could get along with.

So which do I choose, eternity in heaven, avoiding contact with anybody else, or eternity in hell with the suffering, but being able to talk to like minded people?

Tough choice

How can anyone believe in the notion of human rights?

Now before I start, I’m no pro torture fiend from the fiery pits of Guantanamo Bay. This piece of ranting lunacy is about the concept of human rights.

Recently in Scotland we had the public smoking ban start, good news I hear you cry! Well it is for many reasons but that’s not why I’m writing this. Just before the smoking in public places ban came in to effect the media spent their time interviewing the “man on the street”. Now I have no problem with asking the common man his opinion, if fact I enjoy hearing different opinion, but every single reporter (no exception) would ask if the smoking ban was an infringement on the interviewees “human rights”, the answer would always be yes, never any explanation of why it was, and never any mention of the people who work in bars who are exposed to smoke all the time. So does this mean the human rights of a smoker supersede the human rights of a non smoker?

Human rights are a fairly new concept, and maybe because of this not many countries or people believe in them. And why should they, your not born with the “right” to live, nothing has. This whole concept comes from thinking we are not animals, we deserve to live don’t we? We are better than animals aren’t we? The answer is no! Nature is cruel (according to human thinking), but why do we see it as cruel, is it because they show those nature programs with the Sharks killing the baby seals, or the cute mouse been eaten by the Owl? This is nature doing what it does, at no point does some scream for the protection of the Sharks rights to hunt and live!

Why then do we think we are above the animals, is it because we are self aware? How do we know that no other animal is, has anyone asked them? Human rights is a sham, if you believe in them but the man who has you tied to chair and is holding electrodes doesn’t, nobody is going to kick down the door and stop him. If human rights were a globally excepted concept then organisations like Amnesty would not exist.

Having said all this, I do hope that one day the concept will become an accepted and adhered to belief by all peoples of the world. Thank for reading my poorly written and ill conceived rant.
